Two texts co inside, one was written as a diary by a child age 11, by my mother who moved with her family to then (1933) Palestine, refugees who fled the roaring WW2 at her fatherland-Germany. The other text draws in fine graphic lines of her E.C.G, the footprint of my mother’s life experiences ,taken at old age.
My original plan was to start sewing the blanket while visiting Berlin, but I couldn’t find a proper place over there. Later on I could tell that it was not in my hand to rewrite my mother’s history, to turn back the wheels of time, since home for her was in Israel. So was my sewing of the text, following every detail, every mark she left with her hand writing on her diary.
The colors of the threads I picked for stitching the blanket, as much as the title of the work were chosen in respect of who she was, a very modest person. I wish this blanket will cover with some comfort our souls.
